Bedford News

Dear AOPC,

Our ticket sales for the PhotoExpo are exploding lately. This might be the first Bedford event that actually sells out… which is awesome! Thank you very much for spreading the word. If any AOPC members would like to attend, I wouldn’t wait too much longer. I now have a coupon code set up on our website that gives you the $25 discount. “PHOTOCLUB”. Or you can always contact me directly. Money a little tight? If you would like to reserve your spot, and pay closer to the event time… just give me call!

I have heard some great things about Jim DiVitale which is featured on Scott Kelby’s website Here is more information:

                   The Complete Digital Photography Process

                                      With Jim DiVitale

Digital Photography is about quality control in your image making. Photographers all have the same goal in digital photography, to create beautiful images with precision tonal control, and simplify the production workflow with predictable and repeatable results. In this program, Jim will demonstrate problem-solving techniques using digital capture and Photoshop to streamline both the creative and production of the digital imaging workflow to improve quality and save time. Topics will includecalibration and custom profiling of the camera, monitor and printer to achieve a closed loupe of controlled color management, and a start to finish approach to digital photography using several photographic elements to create multi-image photographs for commercial photo-illustrations.

Jim DiVitale has been an Atlanta commercial advertising photographer and instructor for over 30 years specializing in computer photo illustration. He is a PPA Master Photographer, Master of Electronic Imaging, Photographic Craftsman, Fellow of the American Society of Photographers, X-Rite Coloratti, Team Nik and OnOne Master, and a Canon “Explorer of Light.” Jim also serves as Director of Education for the Digital Imaging Institute for Science and Medicine and has lectured on digital photography before audiences at Photoshop World, Imaging USA, Seybold, Photo Plus Expo, MAC Design, HOW Design, Photo Fusion, APA, ASMP, WPPI, SWPP and World Council of Professional Photographers.  He has made presentations to students and faculty at art schools worldwide, including Brooks Institute, San Francisco’s Academy of Art, and Ringling College of Art and Design. Capture Arkansas – PhotoExpo Photo Contest
You heard it here first!  Starting July 5th, 2013, we are kicking off a photo contest on Capture Arkansas in conjunction with the PhotoExpo.  The way I understand it is.. there are no rules or categories… However, I would wait until July 5th to read the information to be sure.  There will be normal voting on the site and then the Top 10 images will be printed as gallery wraps and displayed on aisles at the PhotoExpo!  We will be recruiting some of the speakers and manufacturer reps to judge the final 10 images..   There will be prizes!
Thank you!

AOPC meeting tonight!

The June AOPC meeting will be held tonight at 6:30 PM. Our speaker will be club member David Fugua and he will be speaking on Photography and the Law .Bring your questions to “Stump the Expert”, I already have my list ready. This is a subject that I think all club members should be aware of and have as much knowledge of as possible.
Camera Boot camp continues (unless canceled) at 5:00 PM. Be sure to bring you camera and manual so you can get the most out of it.
Please bring your photo for the “Light” monthly challenge so you can get your name in the pot for the prize drawing in July. You don’t have to be present to win the drawing, but you have to submit a photo this month.
Don’t forget to bring your images for the Open Projector part of the meeting. Bring up to 15 shots, be sure to name them xxx_NNN.jpg (xxx=your initals, NNN=file number). I’ve seen Nat Geo quality pictures shown by the club members  and personally look forward to seeing yours.

News from the President

Here is the June F-stop. I hope you enjoy it. I didn’t include information about the speaker for the June meeting as I have not verified that the intended speaker will be available. However, there is a backup speaker in the wings……or we may just wing it and do something different.
Ernie Decker suggested I pass the message and link below along. I’ll let you be the judge of of it’s value. Please don’t flame me about it, I’m just passing it on and expressing my opinion. Your opinion may be different and that’s fine, I just don’t want/need a lot of negative remarks shot back at me.
Personally, I think the news story was done a little too sensationally (OMG, My child/grandchild  will/could  be kidnapped!!!). However, I do think that there could be some info there that you may not be aware of and it might help you or someone you know. I would be WAY more concerned about this if I knew of someone in an abusive relationship, in the middle a very contentious divorce, or some similar situation. Too many of those end up very, very badly and would definitely help there.
If you have questions, suggestions, etc., feel free to email or call me
